Karimeen Varuthathu |
Karimeen [Pearl Spot] is a fresh water fish. It is a popular recipe of God's own country Kerala.It is also known as Green Chromide.Karimeen Vruthathu, Karimeen fry and Karimeen Mappas are delicacies of Kerala.
Ingredients for Karimeen Varuthathu
Karimeen [Pearl Spot] – ½ kg [4 nos]
Kashmeeri Chili Powder – 1 tbsp
Ginger garlic paste – 2 tbsp
Red chili powder— ½ tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
Black Pepper powder –1 tsp
Lemon juice – 2 tsp
Oil for frying
Salt to taste
Method of the Preparation of Karimeen Varuthathu
Remove the eyes, scales, and fins of the Karimeen and wash thoroughly.
Make gashes on both sides of the fish.
Mix all ingredients except oil and make a good marinade and apply it to the fish liberally.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the fish until brown and crisp.
Garnish the Karimeen Varuthathu with sliced tomatoes, sliced onions and wedge of lemon.
